EVGA has specced a 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan for ultra-quiet operation and increased reliability and lifespan. Power supply characteristics are compared below:ĭelving inside the PSUs, these designs use 100 per cent Japanese capacitors ensure long-term reliability. The 750W and 650W models offer the array of possible connections, as indicated in the chart below. Staying on the outside of the PSU designs you can see the modular cabling ports. Secondly, the elaborate radial spiral atop of the PSU is certainly eye-catching if not particularly aesthetically pleasing. Experienced PC builders will spot the compact size of the unit from its proportions it is 150mm long, the same as its width. In the product photo above, there will be a couple of things that are immediately striking about the new EVGA Supernova GT Series power supplies design. They are both fully modular 80 PLUS Gold Certified units. Only two models make up the range at this stage, the Supernova GT 750 and GT 650. It hopes the proposition will be a popular one, claiming to "Redefine Quality, Performance and Value". Even when all G3s are gone, there are better options than the G5 (e.g., the Corsair RMx and Seasonic Focus Plus Gold models)."Īnd if you really want an EVGA, the Supernova G6 is a very good Seasonic unit, so get that instead.EVGA has launched its Supernova GT Series of PC power supplies. This is what Aris said in his review: "Till the G3 stock clears out, there is no point in preferring a G5 unit. So basically, it uses a design that belongs in a much cheaper PSU, and the performance kind of reflects that. And it's also much worse than the older EVGA G2/G3 (LLC resonant units from Superflower) and worse than the lower priced EVGA GT (LLC resonant unit from HEC). So the G5 is worse than even the EVGA G+, which is also an ACRF unit that is also made by FSP and sold by EVGA. Furthermore, the G5's efficiency at very low load is particularly bad, AND the fan is quite noisy. Good LLC resonant designs have higher efficiency and much better transient response than even the best ACRF PSUs. Other units at this price point use LLC resonant designs. There's plenty of other good stuff in this price range (Superflower Leadex III Gold being the other big one), and the problem is that the G5 is just worse than the others by a significant amount. There's no Gigabyte style mass destruction going on.īut initially, it was priced to compete with high end units like the Corsair RMx and EVGA Focus Plus Gold (now the Focus GX).
